Davis AquaDarts finish second at Long-Course Championships

It was a successful four days for 80 Davis AquaDart swimmers at the Sierra Nevada Swimming Long-Course Championship Junior Olympics in Roseville last weekend.

The AquaDarts finished second in the meet of 22 Northern California teams. The Sierra Marlins were first with 1,958 points, followed by Davis (1,700), Wolverine Aquatics (932), Spare Time Aquatics (813.5) and California Capital Aquatics (797.5).

Several Darts placed in the top-five for high-point winners, including two who were high-point age-group winners. Isaac Carsel tied for first in high point for under-10 boys, and Evan Marczak won for 11-12 boys. Others placing in the top five were Drew Erickson (fifth, U10b), AppleJean Gwinn (third, 11-12g), Ava Bautista (fourth, 11-12g), Tyler Vong (fourth, 11-12b), Sara Kos (fourth, 13-14g) and Audrey Portello (fifth, 15-16g).

The Darts’ relay strength accounted for many points. Relay victories were had by the 11-12 girls and boys, who swept all four relays. Swimmers on these relays were Applejean Gwinn, Ava Bautista, Ava Portello and Yurika Sakai for the girls, and Marczak, Dylan Bonilla, Tyler Vong and Nathan Cheung for the boys. Carsel joined teammates Drew Erickson, Daniel Tokariev and Forte Dimidik to win both of the U10 boys’ relays. The U10 girls won the 200 medley relay with Lily Coehlo, Abby Cenizal, Maddie Moffitt and Avery Wolk taking top honors. The 13-14 girls won the 200 free relay behind the efforts of Sarah Bennetts, Charlotte Rosendale, Julia Miles and Maddy Ching.

Shining individually were Marczak and Carsel, who both won multiple events. Marczak won six of his seven events, taking second in the final race. Carsel won four of his seven races. Other first place winners for Darts were Tyler Vong, Yurika Sakai, Ava Bautista, Charlotte Rosendale, Maddy Ching, Applejean Gwinn, Sara Kos and Audrey Portello.

Other Darts placing in finals (top nibe) in one or more events were: U8 — Ally Westbrook, Ellie McKee, Hadley Foster, Kenzie Walsh, Layla Wolk, Ethan Chan, Takeo Zagata. U10 — Avery Wolk, Abby Cenizal, Maddie Moffitt, Shurui Li, Taylor Adams, Drew Erickson, Forte Dimidik, Harvey Uyeyama, Will Cutler. 11-12 — Adelia Biello, Ava Portella, Ella Ackerman, Tatiana Zagata, Barrett Dimidik, Blake Fuchslin, Dylan Bonilla, Kevin Wong. 13-14 — Gracie Mering, Mikayla Passantino, Kyla Cutler, Leila Meraz, Sarah Bennetts, Val Vong, Brennan Fuchslin, Jackson Harris, Justice Baerjin, Andrew Wong. 15-18 — Sophia Chun, Sofia Dahlgren.
